A message for the Arizona Diamondbacks

In case anyone missed it, they got rid of the teal and purple, here’s their new look:

The bad news is, the Arizona Cardinals called and they want their color scheme back.

Ben Bernanke comments help Wall Street rebound

It isn’t often that Bernanke’s in the news. So I’m going to use this as a feeble excuse to post one of my favorite YouTube videos:

It’s hard to decide where to categorize this. I guess I’ll put it under “shopping” because if the market crashes, then none of us will be doing any buying. ;-)

I should be happy about John McCain’s announcement

I just read on Drudge that John McCain has officially announced that he is running for President. He made the declaration while taping a Letterman show that’ll be broadcast tonight.

Offhand, I don’t know why I don’t like McCain. I applaud Cindy McCain for the work she’s done in Cambodia and trying to help them get rid of land mines but I don’t think she’d make a suitable First Lady.

Hmmmm…. I definitely have to think on this for awhile. I don’t like making decisions unless I know what I based the decision on. But I can’t remember anything that keeps me from supporting McCain, and I’m not rooting for anyone else.

I definitely need to do more research on this, but at least I don’t have to be in a big hurry.

A simple question about illegal aliens

I just read that a Florida state legislator wants to outlaw the use of the word “alien” because she finds it offensive.  She also went on to say, “Illegal,’ I can live with, but I like ‘undocumented’ better.”

I think it’s sad that the citizens of Florida have to pay for the legislation she’s trying to introduce. But my question is, I wonder if she is also going to try to replace the phrase, “identity theft”?

When it gets too hot around here

Summertime is the perfect time for vacations. I know a lot of people come here during the winter, but during the summer, we all have the urge to get out of town for a little while. Wouldn’t it be terrific to escape to London for a unique getaway? Just imagine, instead of getting up at dawn to beat the heat of the day, you could get up at dawn just to see if London is foggy that time of day.

And the food! Yeah, I love a good quesadilla, but wouldn’t it be great to sit down to an afternoon tea with scones and clotted cream? Or, if you’re the more adventurous type, you could find check out the aptly named restaurant “Garlic and Shots” where everything appears to contain garlic. Whatever your tastes, London’s diverse population results in a wide range of cuisine.

And we all should admit that the landscape here has a homogeneous look to it. But in London, you can feast your eyes on unique structures like the Tower of London, a castle which was first a royal residence before becoming a prison. Then there’s the London Eye, also known as the Millennium Wheel, the largest observation wheel in the world. I don’t think anyone would dispute that the grandeur of Westminster Abbey is best appreciated in person.

If you ask me about Arizona, I can come up with a zillion fun things to see and do. But sometimes, it’s nice to get away from the usual view and expand your horizon. If you agree and decide to travel this summer, you may want to consider a trip to London. After all, you probably won’t have to deal with much of a language barrier.

;-)

Weren’t these outlawed by the Surgeon General?

I can NOT believe that Amazon is selling CANDY CIGARETTES! I know that they were popular when I was little and every kid on the block tried them at one time or another. I have a distinct memory of my big sister using them while she and her friends played “Talent Show”. We younger kids weren’t allowed to perform, but we were allowed to play the part of the audience. They’d put on a toy hard plastic wig and belt out a song into their pretend microphone. After the performance, one of them would be the interviewer and ask questions, while the “performer” puffed away on their cig.

Hmmm…. do you think we watched too much “Ed Sullivan”?

One of the best places to buy furniture in AZ

IRCA Hotel Services doesn’t do a lot of advertising and it’s almost impossible to find their site with a search engine. They renovate and liquidate hotels and resorts Then, they sell the used furniture at two stores in the Valley. I haven’t been in there yet, but my friends have told me that the merchandise looks first rate and the deals are terrific. I don’t think their main focus was to be in the furniture business, but I have to hand them for coming up with a unique way to keep armoires out of the landfill.

The site doesn’t have a lot of prices, but I just looked at the sofa section and saw they have some priced around $150. I would say that their prices aren’t too shabby, and neither are their prices.
