Why don’t things work the way they should?

Today, I was leaving the house and couldn’t find my keys anywhere. I looked in my pockets, I looked in my purse, I looked behind the Lava Lamp, I looked under the dog.
Nothing.
So MP tossed me her keys and I dashed out the door. I get to my van, open the door, and lo and behold! There are my keys in the ignition, and when I sit down, the idiot reminder chime goes off.
Of course, the chime never goes off when I’m leaving the van, only when I come back and find my keys waiting for me.
If you are a car thief and you’re reading this, don’t bother looking for my van. The BBD can smell intruders a mile away. I just wish she was as good at sniffing out missing keys.
