Just sitting here talking to the kitty

Everyone’s asleep except me, and the cat is too sleepy to be an entertaining companion. Speaking of companions, I’ve been trying to imagine what it would be like nowadays to be in a relationship. I’ve been single for so long I can’t even hardly remember what it’s like. I’m not complaining, just contemplating how my life would be different. Would I feel crowded? Would he think I was too set in my ways? Most importantly, would he eat the garlic bread that I have stashed away for my late night snack?
Seriously, I wonder if I should spend more thought on finding a companion? I am pretty picky and I don’t mind saying so. (I try to avoid discussing my ex because he is in my past, where he belongs, but I can’t resist pointing out that he brought a date to one of our custody hearings. Makes you wonder how selective he was when he asked me out, lol. ) I think there’s a price to pay when you’re picky, but I have to admit that I don’t mind paying the price. I’ve heard some women say that half a relationship is better than none, but for me, I’d rather have a good relationship or none at all.
I have noticed that a lot of men out there seem to want instant commitment and instant relationships. YIKES! I prefer to take a long time to get to know someone before I trust them. I can’t remember where I read it, but I remember reading that you should be wary of anyone that seems to proclaim their undying love before they even know you, warts and all. I think a lot more people need to remember that advice when it comes to dating, but it seems that many people spend more time picking out their tv entertainment center than they do choosing who they allow in their life.
I do think that it’s a good idea to use a reputable dating site to help select possible companions. Actually, I think it’s probably better to trust a reputable site than to depend on friends to practice their matchmaking skills on you. Your friends and relatives may think they have an inkling of someone that would be compatible for you, but then again, why risk creating any friction or bad feelings if you reject someone they picked for you? But if you use a free dating site, you’re in control of who you decide to meet.
