I hop around a lot, reading other blogs and I found one blog that offers some unique perspectives. The writer, Nigel Elliott, shares his thoughts on bullies, intimidation, influenza and feminism, although not in that order. I’m not saying that I agree with everything he says, but I do like the way he expresses himself. Go take a look at his blog and see if you don’t agree.
Just what was Yukon Cornelius looking for?

Do you remember watching Yukon in the Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer Christmas show? If you ever wondered why he licked his pickaxe so often, I have the answer:
It seems that Rankin Bass edited out a scene where Yukon discovers a peppermint mine! Just think, all this time I thought he was looking to get rich because he wanted to turn a profit on the prevailing silver price . I don’t know how to look it up, but wouldn’t it be interesting to find out how much silver has increased in price since the special was first shown in 1964. I’d be willing to bet that silver is worth far more than any peppermint that Yukon may have dug up back then. I guess it would be fair to say that when it comes to investing and speculating, poor ol’ Yukon is definitely a misfit.
I’m thinking about ordering groceries online

I just noticed that two of my local grocery stores offer delivery service. I wonder how well that works? One store, Safeway, charges about 12 bucks for delivery. When you consider how long shopping takes, 12 bucks sounds like a great bargain. I wonder if they’re careful with the produce, or if they just throw in the first tomato they grab? I haven’t decided whether or not to have my groceries delivered, but it does seem like a good idea to try at least once.

in Links I Love
I’ve been stumbling around, just looking at things that seem interesting. I found a site that describes Semiotics for Beginners . It says that semiotics is the science of signs. Since it’s supposed to be for beginners, I should be able to comprehend some of this, but I’m drawing blanks right now. Maybe I should give up and go read the Dilbert archives instead.
Another site that I can’t comprehend right now is Hyperspace: A Scientific Odyssey . It explores the possibility of unseen worlds just beyond our reach, beyond our commonly held laws of physics. I totally believe that other dimensions could exist and I plan on reading this site after I’ve gotten some rest. However, right now due to my level of comprehension, I plan on watching a rerun of “I Love Lucy”.
Spring Clean Your Blog

I’ve been reading about how important it is to keep your blog neat and tidy. For example, you should check all your blogroll links to make sure that they still work. That shouldn’t be too hard for me because I only have two links on my blogroll. Maybe I don’t need to worry about cleaning up my blog, maybe I should do some maintenance work, like finding some family-friendly blogs to swap links with.
My problem is that I’d rather spend time writing on my blog than working on it, if that makes sense. A few weeks ago, I had posted blogging advice from Laura Ingalls Wilder, but I haven’t been totally diligent in following that advice. On the other hand, I have been pretty good at posting on a regular basis, which is more than I ever thought I would do when I first started blogging.
Just sitting here talking to the kitty

Everyone’s asleep except me, and the cat is too sleepy to be an entertaining companion. Speaking of companions, I’ve been trying to imagine what it would be like nowadays to be in a relationship. I’ve been single for so long I can’t even hardly remember what it’s like. I’m not complaining, just contemplating how my life would be different. Would I feel crowded? Would he think I was too set in my ways? Most importantly, would he eat the garlic bread that I have stashed away for my late night snack?
Seriously, I wonder if I should spend more thought on finding a companion? I am pretty picky and I don’t mind saying so. (I try to avoid discussing my ex because he is in my past, where he belongs, but I can’t resist pointing out that he brought a date to one of our custody hearings. Makes you wonder how selective he was when he asked me out, lol. ) I think there’s a price to pay when you’re picky, but I have to admit that I don’t mind paying the price. I’ve heard some women say that half a relationship is better than none, but for me, I’d rather have a good relationship or none at all.
I have noticed that a lot of men out there seem to want instant commitment and instant relationships. YIKES! I prefer to take a long time to get to know someone before I trust them. I can’t remember where I read it, but I remember reading that you should be wary of anyone that seems to proclaim their undying love before they even know you, warts and all. I think a lot more people need to remember that advice when it comes to dating, but it seems that many people spend more time picking out their tv entertainment center than they do choosing who they allow in their life.
I do think that it’s a good idea to use a reputable dating site to help select possible companions. Actually, I think it’s probably better to trust a reputable site than to depend on friends to practice their matchmaking skills on you. Your friends and relatives may think they have an inkling of someone that would be compatible for you, but then again, why risk creating any friction or bad feelings if you reject someone they picked for you? But if you use a free dating site, you’re in control of who you decide to meet.
