HUMAN FOOD MIGHT NOW BE TAINTED WITH MELAMINE!

I can NOT believe that this story isn’t getting major coverage on all the news shows and web sites. California state officials are trying to track down pork customers and start testing muscle, liver and kidney tissues from California hogs. Scientists are also studying the pork to determine whether melamine is present and poses a risk for people who might have eaten it.

The first link I posted kind of downplays the issue, saying that there is no danger to humans at this time. (Well, isn’t that some of the same garbage we’ve heard about the pet food that ended up being recalled?) This story says that “possibility exists that the human food supply could be at risk because melamine, the same contaminant found in the nation’s pet food supply which has killed and sickened thousands of cats and dogs, has now been found in pigs meant for human consumption at a 1500-animal facility in California.”

I know they probably don’t want to cause a panic, but why isn’t anyone erring on the side of caution and saying that humans should avoid pork until it’s all been thoroughly tested? Personally, I don’t know if I have any pork products in my home right now, but I’m going to check. If I do, it’s either going in the freezer or the trash until I know it is totally safe to eat.
