Saturday Stuff

I decided last night that I am addicted to online grocery shopping at Safeway. I know that Safeway is pretty much a local store, but it appears that they’re affiliated with other chains like Von’s, Dominick’s, Randall’s Tom Thumb, Genuardi’s Pavilions, and Carrs. I just wish that another local store, Bashas, made their online shopping easier to navigate, because I would rather order from them.
The good part about shopping online is that they email me coupons for sales that aren’t in the stores. Now, some of the stuff I can live without, but its almost always stuff I was going to buy anyway. By using the coupons, I usually manage to deflect the $10 delivery charge, so that means that I’m not paying extra for their service. The personal shoppers also seem to do a terrific job at picking out produce, and I’ve never been displeased with any fresh food they’ve brought.
The bad part about shopping online is that I can’t use manufacturer’s coupons, or at least, I haven’t seen that option on their site. Come to think of it, I should call their customer service number on Monday to see if they do accept coupons. I think Bashas does, but alas and alack, their online shopping area is a torment that most mortals can’t endure.
Also, at Safeway, the weekly ads don’t seem to apply to online ordering. Which is more bothersome than the fact they don’t accept coupons.
Overall, I think I much prefer buying groceries online instead of going into the store on a burning hot summer day. First of all, there’s no waiting when you order online. Secondly, I can start the order on one day, leave it in the cart and come back days later to finish it up. Its very handy, and something I would never try at a real brick and mortar store.
