Grapes are DANGEROUS for your dog

The other day, before Karen developed her grape-o-phobia, I was eating grapes. I was about to toss one to the BBD, when I decided to research the idea first. Boy am I glad I did, because I found instances of dogs dying after eating just a few grapes. It’s the same thing for raisins too. They don’t understand why this seems to be a recent occurrence, but they’ll poison a dog no matter if the grapes are commercially grown, home grown, organic or not. If your dog eats a grape, or raisin or even a raisin bagel, call your vet right away. If your vet is unfamiliar with this problem, then try to quickly explain the situation to them, and if they still are unwilling to treat your dog, go elsewhere.

What’s tragic is that many dog handlers and trainers use grapes as little motivating rewards. They don’t know that they’re actually hurting the dog and sometimes don’t find out until its too late.

Update on Karen: The weirdest phobia ever?

She’s doing very well, but yesterday, she had a terrible fright. I was sitting at my computer with a bowl of green seedless grapes right next to the keyboard. She jumped onto my lap, then looked at the grapes.

She is terrified of grapes! I don’t know why, they weren’t moving, they weren’t wet, they were just sitting in a smallish bowl. She was so scared that she dug her claws into me. My daughter had to come remove the grapes and then remove Karen. Carefully remove her because her claws were deeply and painfully embedded into my skin. I’ve never seen an animal react like that to an inert object, and I’m mystified by her behavior. One things for certain, I won’t be eating any grapes any time soon.

OH! This reminds me… but I think I’ll talk about dogs in the next post. Gotta give the BBD equal time, after all.

I am about to BUST!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D

Yesterday, we accomplished something pretty significant to us personally. I wish I could put all the details here, but its just a bit too premature. I just want to mark the date, so that later on, when I’m trying to remember the day X happened, I’ll have it right here on my blog.

I’m feeling a bit worn out today, it must be from all the cartwheels I did on my driveway yesterday. Okay, I wasn’t exactly doing cartwheels, just running around going “WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!” and laughing and yelling a lot. I am one happy and excited camper right now and will be for some time to come.

I found some great deals on toys

I love Amazon this time of year, because this is when they start selling off stuff in order to get ready for Christmas. Some of their sales merchandise is trendy, but some of it stays popular from year to year. Even if you don’t have young kids or young relatives, you may want to consider buying some toys for your area’s program for needy children.

If you like what you see, it’s best to buy it right then. Recently, I bought one toy for five bucks on clearance, then it sold out. It’s back in stock, but they’re selling it for $40 now. Ouch! In no particular order, I present the following deals. I don’t know if they’re popular or not, I’m just going by the markdown.

Matchbox Trash Truck, was 9.99, now 4.19

Matchbox Dump Truck was 7.99 now 4.19

Backyardigans Mountie Tyrone was $24.99 now $5.79

Buzzin’ Beehive was  $9.99 now $3.95

There’s a lot more at Amazon, this is just a sample. I’ll post more if people are interested. Remember, these toys and many other items at Amazon ship free when you spend 25 dollars or more. That means you don’t have to spend your time or your gas, just go to Amazon and click away.

Christmas Bargain Shopping: Pretty Watches at Great Prices

I was about to go to sleep, but then I stumbled across these Birthstone cuff watches on sale at avon.com . Normally, they’re $29.99, but right now, you can get them for $9.99 each PLUS free shipping if you use code ENTAV2007.

If you know any Elvis fans, they might enjoy avon’s Elvis Presley 30th Anniversary Commemorative Watch on sale for $19.99. It also ships free with the same code. As a matter of fact, from what I understand, all orders from avon ship for free with that code, so stock up on your Skin So Soft and lip balm too. Make sure you check your cart before you check all the way out to ensure that the code is valid.

There’s CANDY in the house! WOOOO!!

My son brought home a bag of Dum Dum pops today from the store. What a nice surprise! They’re one of my favorite kinds of candy. The variety of flavors seem to change from time to time. I remember they used to make ‘buttered popcorn’, but I didn’t see that in the bag. At their site, they want people to vote for their favorite flavors. That’s not too hard for me because I like butterscotch, root beer and strawberry. I’m not too fond of grape, so I just give them to the BBD. I never knew dogs like lollipops, but she likes them almost as much as I do.

But I thought Plow & Hearth only sold plows… and hearths?

The first step to successful gift shopping is to step out of your online comfort zone. Now, I don’t mean ordering from bizarre sites like www.GeorgesOnlineVideoStoreAndFishingHats.com but there are plenty of great deals at reputable sites.

For example, Plow & Hearth has some adorable pouches for iPods at a terrific price. Originally priced at $24.95, they’re on clearance for $4.99. They’re made of Neoprene, so make sure your intended recipient isn’t allergic. Personally, I run screaming like a little girl any time someone waves Neoprene around me, so this would NOT be a suitable gift for yours truly.

While you’re there, make sure to click on the link that says 50 to 80% Off Items. You’ll be amazed at the prices of some of the items. Now, some of them may not be conventional gift items, but think outside of the box a bit. Would a nature-loving kid enjoy the Insect Theatre? Is there someone on your list that would appreciate a Fleece Hood Wrap? It’s on sale for $14.99, saving you 57% of their original price.

They also have some Christmas decorations on massive clearance. For example, you can get a 7-1/2′ Pre-Lit Tree for $159.99, marked down from its original price of $399.95. You can buy the tree now, and when December rolls around, you’ll have a top-dollar tree that you didn’t have to pay top dollar for. Which means you’ll just have that much more money to do more shopping.
