Is it just me, or…?

Want to know if a particular site is crashed, or if it’s just something you alone are experiencing? MP found a great site called downforeveryoneorjustme.com . You put in the url into the box that looks like this:

Is down for everyone or just me ?

and it instantly tests the link for you. It’s not a hundred percent reliable, but it’s handy to have around.

After years of faithful service

laskofan.jpgI can’t believe my Lasko box fan just died. I’ve had it for eons and it was so good for moving around just the right amount of air. It was so reliable up till now, but it just stopped running suddenly. Lasko seems to make good products, so I will definitely try to find that brand when I go to the store for a replacement. Come to think of it though, it may be hard to find a new fan in the stores. After all, it’s about 101° today in the Phoenix area and it’s August, so that means most stores have probably put the fans away by now and are starting to fill the shelves with winter coats and Christmas supplies.

Akismet, I love you!

I use Akismet on all my blogs, but never gave it much thought till now. Can you imagine what the blogosphere would be like if it had never been created? How many of us would just shut down our sites instead of having to wade through the vile and disgusting drek that Askimet catches? I think we all owe a big debt of gratitude to “Matt Mullenweg of WordPress and his merry band of Automattic rascal hackers“, as well as Matt’s sister, Charleen, who came up with the name.

A word to the wise…

Although this is meant for one person, I’m putting this bit of wisdom out there, so everyone can learn from one person’s mistakes:

If you are hired to do a job, do not send an email asking for a week’s delay because you have to make an emergency trip to your sister in another country, and then spend that same week posting on your personal blog about shows you’re watching on American cable tv.

“Bob”, I don’t know if you read my blog, but I just visited yours and it looks like you’re relaxing and having a grand time. Well, the good news is that I don’t plan on taking up any more of your time, so looks like you’re going to have PLENTY of time to watch even more tv because you sure won’t be working for me anymore. You probably thought you were invaluable because your pay kept getting bumped up. Yes, you did a good job, but you’re also easy to replace. Good luck in your future endeavors, “Bob”, but don’t count on me for a positive reference on your work ethics.

Doing Blog Maintenance is so BLECH!

Late last night/early this morning, I fixed everything that made my theme go bonkers and also brought back my blogroll. I just tested a few of the links, and looks like a few have closed up their sites. So now I have to deal with abandonment issues brought on by the disappearance of Gourmet A Go Go. (Darn it, I really liked Chef Jules’ site too!)

Well, maybe not abandonment issues, I just have to go through the blogroll and weed out the old, maybe add some new. If you want to be added to  my blogroll, just let me know.  I gotta warn you, I only link to sites I like and don’t care if they reciprocate or not, so you probably won’t be on my list if you have a site that sells knitted hats to marauding Peruvian duck hunters.

Wheee… blog is fixed now

Darn, I shouldn’t have tackled it when I was tired and staying up late because it took me twice as long to find the offending post as it would as if I hadn’t been so tired. Or at least, that will be my excuse in the morning when I can barely drag myself out of bed.

Yes, I know my blog is broken

Thanks for all the emails. I don’t have time to fix it right now, so have a good Sunday and I hope to set it to rights on Monday.
