Clicking Chronicles, Day 2

I was a guinea pig again today, and didn’t mind a bit. Well, there was an interlude where my son carried off my laptop, but that was all in the name of experimentation, or so he claims. My daughter had me testing something totally different, and both of them were talking about structuring, site architecture and a whole lot of other things that I didn’t quite catch. I’m hoping that their end results make money for them, if so, then I guess their activities today could be construed as “parsing the buck”.
After years of faithful service

I can’t believe my Lasko box fan just died. I’ve had it for eons and it was so good for moving around just the right amount of air. It was so reliable up till now, but it just stopped running suddenly. Lasko seems to make good products, so I will definitely try to find that brand when I go to the store for a replacement. Come to think of it though, it may be hard to find a new fan in the stores. After all, it’s about 101° today in the Phoenix area and it’s August, so that means most stores have probably put the fans away by now and are starting to fill the shelves with winter coats and Christmas supplies.
Why I nearly had a heart attack yesterday

There I was in the control panel, working away merrily, trying to decide whether or not the magenta/puce color combination would look good on my site. In another window, I clicked to refresh the home page, and that’s when it happened:
Everything was GONE! All that was left was a BIG WHITE page staring back at me!
Thankfully, my daughter was able to figure out what was wrong and restore everything back to the way it was. Apparently, it didn’t like the fact that I was copying and pasting my quote marks ( like img src= ” ) and wanted me to type them in instead.
I learned two things yesterday:
- ALWAYS back up EVERYTHING! Poor MP had to do some sort of manual restore which would’ve been a lot easier if I had been backing up as I went along.
- I may not be a genius when it comes to websites, but I think I gave birth to one. If she hadn’t rescued me, then hours of my hard work would be forever lost. Thanks MP!
Speaking of hard work, I better get on it or it will never get done.

Flat toothpicks and Johnson’s Soothing Naturals Moisture Cream

If you’re trying to find either in the E.V., you might as well give up the search. I can kind of understand stores no longer selling a particular type of lotion, even if it happens to be the best moisturizer ever invented in the history of mankind. However, I can’t figure out why I can’t find any flat toothpicks anywhere. I found the normal pointy ones, but I wonder if they’ve stopped making the flat version. I don’t need many, just a couple to detail my laptop’s keyboard, so I’m not looking to corner the market. Oh well, maybe they’re all sold out because a lot of moms are making toothpick sculptures with their kids during summer vacation.
I just noticed that the site owner I linked to used marshmallows for the toothpick sculpture. I suppose that’s suitable, but I think that good ol’ white glue is more preferable. Then again, maybe they had the same problems finding white glue that I had finding the Johnson’s lotion.

I woke up this morning in a foul mood. I think it’s because Karen’s been disrupting my sleep again. She loves to sleep on ear or on my neck. I don’t allow her to do it while I’m awake, but she has a tendency to wait till I’m sawing logs, then she creeps up slowly and stealthfully till she’s exactly where she wants to be on my head. It was adorable when she was a little baby kitty, but I tell you, a full grown gray striped cat is pretty effective at restricting the blood flow in the carotid artery.
I think I’ll be a bit more cheerful after I’ve recovered from this slight case of feline-induced anoxia.

My son’s glorious career

My son has left the fascinating world of retail and is now happily ensconced in his job at a call center, doing tech support. He sits there all day, answering questions from middle-aged people who don’t know know much about computers. Then he comes home and has to deal with me, a middle-aged person who doesn’t know much about computers.
He loves his new job because they’ll flex around his school hours AND he makes more than even his pinhead bosses make at Walmart. Well, that’s not quite fair, his bosses treated him very nicely most of the time and were sad to see him leave, so I probably shouldn’t call them names. Still and all, I think that any person that’s a manager at a Walmart has probably reached the pinnacle of their skillset and probably isn’t a mental giant, so would that make them pinheads?
Oh gosh, this is why I don’t blog here a lot. I started off with an idea about writing about my son, veered off in to Walmart land and was about to start talking about Walmart customers, Walmart stores and the bad press Walmart gets, much of which I feel is undeserved. I spent too much time going off topic, so now I have to run and will write more about my son (and Walmart) in other posts, other times. Right now, I have to go look at more templates and themes. ugh.

Cats Cats and more Cats!

Karen the kitty is doing very well and growing up so quickly. She’s got quite a personality with some rather unique tastes.
She likes:
Canned frijoles
Chasing the laser light
Sour cream and onion flavored rice cakes
Sitting on my shoulder and riding piggy back
She HATES:
The smell of hand sanitizer
She tolerates the other cats. She doesn’t seem to dislike them, but she also doesn’t snuggle up to them. All in all, they seem to get along rather well, at least there haven’t been any fights amongst the herd.
