Drats! Not again!

Well, I feel the old creepy ickies coming back. I can’t believe I’m getting sick again! This is like the 18,527th time this summer. I’ve decided that I’m going to try some alternative therapy and ask my son to make some soup. He came up with an original recipe and it’s never the same twice, but it’s loosely based on this:
- Lipton’s dried onion soup base (the kind you use for onion dip)
- 2 cans of chicken broth
- onions, as many as will fit, and still have room for the canned broth
- tons of garlic cloves, as many as you can fit between the onion pieces
- a splash or two of Tabasco or El Pato, as much as you can stand
Put it all in the pot, put the lid on, and cook till the onions and garlic are tender
I don’t know which will fare worse, me or the germs. If I’m not back in a few days, you can assume that I’ve taken my stomach to soak in a vat of Pepto-Bismol.
Smoke Dope? Are you CRAZY?

A recent study shows that smoking just one joint could greatly increase the risk of serious mental illness by as much as 40 percent. Fwiw, I don’t drink or smoke dope, but I’ve never really concerned myself with the topic and feel totally apathetic about people that do choose to smoke it, unless it was to address the issue of those who drive while impaired. I’ve never thought it was a good idea to decriminalize pot, only because I’m not sure if it’s a gateway drug or not and I’ve always felt that more definitive research needed to be done by both sides.
However, if its true that pot can increase the risk of schizophrenia, then I think we, as a socieity should take a long hard look at the situation. I’m not foolish enough to think that everyone that smokes dope is going to have a mental illness, but then again, I don’t know how anyone on the planet could ever predict whether or not marijuana could seriously affect any particular person.
So Much Catching Up

But the good news is that I don’t think I’m going to have a re-re-re-re-relapse. Up till now, I’d have one or two days of feeling good, and then I’d feel worse than before. I may actually be on the road to getting better! Woooo!!!
So much stuff to do online. For example, I think I missed most of the “do-follow” action and I don’t even know if its too late to participate. I also have to decide whether or not to install an “will blog for bucks” badge or not. Hmmm… I think I’ll leave that one on the back burner a bit longer. In the meantime, it feels great to feel good!
An Intelligent Approach to Healthcare

I have to admit that I’m not too fond of conventional practices in the medical field, and my recent illness has done nothing to shore up my opinion. I know that a lot of people think that our government and hmos are to blame for the current dilemma, but I think there’s more factors, including our super-litigious society and the skyrocketing costs of malpractice insurance.
No matter where you stand on this issue, I think we can all agree that the days of Doctors like Welby or Kildare making house calls are long gone. It’s vital for everyone to take charge of their own healthcare and realize that they are ultimately responsible for managing their own health. Thankfully, med3q has developed a social network site that’s based on the concept,“It’s your health. Make it personal.” The site offers support to people with chronic conditions diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. However, they also offer consumers and doctors the priceless opportunity of interacting safely and discreetly, if need be.
They also have a terrific section titled BizRx. It’s for doctors only and it provides meaningful business information in a concise manner to help doctors improve the business aspect of their practice. Doctors can also interact with their peers in the secluded section, allowing them to exchange timely information and enchange in meaningful dialogue with each other.
The best news of all is that it’s totally free! Not only that, the site is having a contest and giving away prizes in their Member Appreciation Drawing. But even if you go just to enter the contest at first, I think your life may be better off if you read some of the blogs and participate in the discussions in the forums. Personally, I think Med3Q.com can help everyone take better control of their health and that may be the most valuable ‘prize’ anyone can ever receive.
So, I nearly died last week

Well, not quite, but I felt like it. At one point, I swear I saw the angel of death standing in my hallway. Only, he looked like Gordon Jump from WKRP and was carrying a deflated beach ball. I don’t know what he would’ve done if my psycho cat hadn’t scared him away.
I’m better now, but I now have a slight phobia about beach balls.
My boring health

Well, it seems that I have good days, and some that are not so good. Sometimes, I get a good eight hours sleep, and sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night in agony. I’m sure its boring to read about, and frankly, it’s boring to me to sit at the computer for hours, reading all sorts of articles on line, trying to find some information that can help ease my condition.
Oh well, I guess here’s the new rule for my blog: When I’m here, I’m here, and if I’m not blogging, then I’ll get back to it as soon as I can. In the meantime, thanks to everyone for sticking with me and I’ll try to blog as much as possible.

It’s about time to blow the dust off the old blogeroo and get back to posting again. I’m hoping to start out a bit slow and be back up to total speed by Wednesday.I would say “back to normal” but then again, I’ve never been known for normalcy, lol.
Seriously, thanks to everyone for their kind words and wishes and see you all around the blogosphere.
