As I type this, Obama is either speaking to the graduating class at ASU or he just finished. Of course, his presence caused great traffic snarls, but I suppose that would be the situation for any president appearing at ASU. No one was allowed to bring containers of any kind inside the stadium. However, when they got inside, everyone found out that bottles of water cost 5.50 EACH! Considering they started arriving around 1 pm in the hot Arizona sun, I sure hope everyone stayed well-hydrated and safe.
I confess that I didn’t watch the television coverage of Obama’s visit. I would hope he would encourage the grads to start on a path of self-reliance, and to accept responsibility for their prior actions. Then again, the Democrats aren’t accepting any responsiblity for the financial problems that started two years ago when they took control of the Legislature. I mean, how can Obama tell the seniors that they are responsible for their futures when he and Pelosi refuse to accept any responsiblity for their past actions?
In an interview, Barack Obama was asked by George Stephanopoulos of ABC’s “This Week” program whether he’d ever thought about military service and replied: “You know, I actually did. I had to sign up for Selective Service when I graduated from high school” A few moments later, he said, “But keep in mind that I graduated in 1979.”
However, the Selective Service Registration requirement was terminated by Proclamation 4360 which eliminated the registration requirement for all 18-25 year old male citizens. This proclamation was signed by President Gerald R. Ford on March 29, 1975. According to Wikipedia, it was reestablished by Jimmy Carter in 1980, after Obama graduated:
On March 25, 1975, Pres. Gerald Ford signed Proclamation 4360, Terminating Registration Procedures Under Military Selective Service Act, eliminating the registration requirement for all 18-25 year old male citizens. Then on July 2, 1980, President Jimmy Carter signed Proclamation 4771, Registration Under the Military Selective Service Act, retroactively re-establishing the Selective Service registration requirement for all 18-26 year old male citizens born on or after January 1, 1960. Only men born between March 29, 1957, and December 31, 1959, were completely exempt from Selective Service registration.[2] The first registrations after Proclamation 4771 took place on Monday, July 21, 1980, for those men born in January, February and March 1960 at U.S. Post Offices. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays were reserved for men born in the later quarters of the year, and registration for men born in 1961 began the following week [3].
I know many people are probably focusing on Obama’s “My Muslim Faith” comment during the same interview, but I think this is just as important. Why in the world would he lie about something like this? Everyone at the time knew that young men were no longer required to register.
Even if Obama didn’t know that Ford had signed the proclamation, how could he be remembering being required to sign up, when there was no requirement at all?
President Carter said of Barack Obama:
“I just don’t think he’s got yet the proven substance or experience to be the president.”
This was said less than 2 years ago, when Carter was appearing on “The Charlie Rose Show”, Nov. 30, 2006.
Can someone please tell me what has changed in Obama’s substance or experience in the past 20 odd months or so?
I’m sure a lot of people have seen the John McCain For President video with “Debra the Democrat”. I found another video where she is giving an interview about being ejected from the 2008 Democratic National Convention because she trusts McCain more than Obama.
She makes great points about what a political convention should be and it makes me wonder if Obama is trying to unify the country, why is he trying to silence those that don’t agree with him? Shouldn’t Obama listen to everyone’s concerns, not just those that agree with him?
Q: What do Barack Obama and Hannah Montana have in common?
A: They both have roughly the same amount of executive governmental experience.
And hopefully both are about to use up their 15 minutes of fame.

I was shocked when I read, “Media Continues Four Day Blackout on House Republican Energy Revolt” at ScoopThis.Org. I can’t add too much to their well-written post, so I am just encouraging everyone to visit their site and find out what’s going on. I admit that I haven’t watched much news on tv lately, but then again, if broadcast “news” isn’t reporting stories objectively, maybe I’m not missing much.
Here’s a playlist on YouTube with various videos of the House Republican Energy Revolt, and this video is House GOP Energy Revolt Press Conference, Part 1
