Maybe she should’ve taught him to obey the law

There’s a local story that’s brewing and will probably ooze over into the national news and show up on Drudge soon. A 16 year old Mexican national was here illegally. He was driving, and was stopped by law enforcement for squealing his tires and going 22 miles over the speed limit. He and his two friends/passengers ended up being deported back to Mexico.
So now his mother is claiming that her son didn’t know his rights and wasn’t told his rights by the Police. First off, the kid was driving without a drivers license. Second of all, the police don’t have to give you your rights during a traffic stop. Thirdly, if she is so upset about her son’s situation, why did she let him get deported all by himself?
There’s so much more I could say about this, but I better stop until I can write in a calm and objective manner. I’ll just finish by saying that no wonder the kid breaks the law, he learned by the example his mother is setting by being here illegally.
Picture Caption Needed

I am a conservative, but I have to admit that this picture tickles my funny bone. I wish I could come up with a suitable caption, but I draw a blank every time I look at the picture. I can’t even remember the site the picture came from, or the occasion of the picture. All I have is this picture:

If anyone could help me come up with something funny and appropriate, it would be greatly appreciated.

I recently listened to one chapter of an audio book, Prayer at Rumayla by Charles Sheehan-Miles . It tells the story of Chet Brown, a nineteen year-old young man that has arrived home from the Gulf War. Brown comes back as a wounded warrior, one that may have not been prepared for the monstrosity of war and the acts of annihilation and extermination perpetuated in its name. Sheehan-Miles uses Brown to exemplify many emotions that soldiers are left to contend with.
Please be advised that this story contains language that may be considered obscene and vulgar by some. Personally, I’m basically a G-rated person myself, but I can certainly understand Sheehan-Miles motivation for using this kind of language and I have no quarrels whatsover with his reasons for using profanity that seems to be a necessary part of this story.
As a mother, I related to Chet as if he were my own son and I commend Sheehan-Miles for his ability to bring such a complex character to life. I ached for Chet and the anguish he suffered. I was saddened at the thought of all the Chets in the world that have left the service, but the service never leaves their minds and their hearts. I am grateful that Sheehan-Miles was able to help me to see war, and to a greater extent, the world, through the eyes of a young man.

Why I may go back to being a-political

I was listening to the radio today and heard an ad about Harry Mitchell, one of our recently elected officials. He surprisingly defeated incumbent J.D. Hayworth, and I haven’t heard a word from Mitchell since.
Anyhoo, the commercial was about how Mitchell doesn’t favor the worker, he favors the big union boss, etc etc, yada yada. There was no explanation of the claims, just a minor tirade on the “evils of Harry Mitchell”.
Fwiw, I didn’t vote for Mitchell. But I am offended that groups are asking me to call him and complain without explaining the substance of the complaint. Despite the fact that I don’t agree with Mitchell, I think he has character and he doesn’t change his stance like a windsock in a stiff breeze. I would definitely call or email his office if I did disagree with him, but I need these groups to explain themselves clearly and not hide behind emotional rhetoric.
I should be happy about John McCain’s announcement

I just read on Drudge that John McCain has officially announced that he is running for President. He made the declaration while taping a Letterman show that’ll be broadcast tonight.
Offhand, I don’t know why I don’t like McCain. I applaud Cindy McCain for the work she’s done in Cambodia and trying to help them get rid of land mines but I don’t think she’d make a suitable First Lady.
Hmmmm…. I definitely have to think on this for awhile. I don’t like making decisions unless I know what I based the decision on. But I can’t remember anything that keeps me from supporting McCain, and I’m not rooting for anyone else.
I definitely need to do more research on this, but at least I don’t have to be in a big hurry.
